
There’s a new bike way in Eje 4 Sur of CDMX! That’s how Secretaria de Movilidad (SEMOVI) (Ministry of Mobility) and Secretaria de Desarrollo Urbano y Vivienda (SEDUVI) (Ministry of Urban Development and Housing) announced it.
A separated cycle path located in Eje 4 Sur Benjamin Franklin, & the border among Cuauhtemoc and Miguel Hidalgo city halls. These extend to a length of 1.5 km that cover from the Circuito Interior Revolucion to Avenida Nuevo Leon.
It has horizontal and vertical signage as areas intended to safeguard to pedestrians. Likewise, it has a separation from vehicle transit through confibicis, which impede car access to these, and cyclist can be safe.
The new bicycle way in Eje 4 sur also comply with one of the main features that a lane of this kind must have: the interconnection with more paths and public transport services.
In this way, it connects with line 9 of Sistema de Transporte Colectivo (STC) (System of Collective Transport Metro) and line 2 of Metrobus. In the same way, it will integrate with different ECOBICI points and will be linked with bike ways of Revolucion, Patriotismo and Avenida Nuevo Leon, as cycle lanes in Agricultura and Mineria.
Thus, through the construction of the new bike way in Eje 4 Sur and other cycling infrastructures, the SEMOVI tries to guarantee that cyclists have safer routes, as greater options of mobility by integrating with public transport. All in all, are measures that have as a purpose to improve urban mobility for all citizens.

How many rides people performs in Mexico City?
Every 10 years, is made the Encuesta Intercensal del Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI) (Intercensal Survey of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography). The results of 2015 mentioned that 89,236 people moved to work or school by bike. This number would represent the 1.5% of citizens.
On the other hand, the Estudio de Movilidad Ciclista (study of cycling mobility) of 2016 revealed that the greater number of the 16 city halls of cycling trips are in Cuauhtemoc, Miguel Hidalgo, Benito Juarez and Azcapotzalco.
The same survey, of 2018, informs that from a total of 267,076 rides by bike, the 96% of them occur in the capital (three of every 4 are perform among city halls), while the 2% begin in the State of Mexico and conclude in the capital, and the 1% starts in Mexico City and ends in State of Mexico.
With the new bike way in Eje 4 Sur, how many km of bike ways exist?
Nowadays, the megapolis has 535.54 km of cycling infrastructure, counted up to May of 2024. Of course, to this data we must add the 1.5 km of the recent bike way in Eje 4 Sur.
Most part of bike ways are in certain parts of Eje Central, Avenida Alvaro Obregon, Eje 2 Sur, Eje 2 Poniente, Avenida Tlahuac and Insurgentes.
