
Celaya residents enjoy a new track of the cycling infrastructure thanks to the recent bike path on Insurgentes street.
The bike path enabled by the Dirección de Tránsito y Policía Vial (Direction of Transit and Road Police), on deprimido bridge with a length of 2329 ft, covering from Ximhai Park to the intersection on Insurgentes.
According to Francisco Frías Méndez, general director of the dependency, the intention is creating more connections of transport in the city hall.
We are enabling new connections here on the city hall, this was very important, it starts on the outside of Ximhai Park and are 2329 ft until Insugentes and from there the connection to the south”, mentioned Frías.
In addition, the official informed that the processes for the construction of cycling lanes, the creation of bike path on Insurgentes street is thanks to the correct research and studies, as the request of this made by population.
“It’s an important cycling network, cyclists required it. We did research, a road audit and as the result, it was feasible to place it and we did it, we support them”, he said.
Reinforcement with infrastructure
And, emphasized that the cycling track is going to be reinforced with more infrastructure. This is due bikeways are constantly invaded by motorized vehicles and used as parking lots. For that Méndez mentioned the importance of having a correct road culture.
Likewise, he also stressed that they will do everything to ensure equal mobility for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and others.
“We are working with the road culture area to get to everyone involved on the mobility pyramid. Actions like these, where don’t respect spaces happens in all the cities, due a lack of road culture, we are going to reinforce it. We haven’t finished this part but we are going to reinforce it to provide safety to our cyclists”, he indicated.
On the other hand, he emphasized that the opening of the Insurgentes bike way, Celaya has 8.0 miles in total and 354 ft of cycling infrastructure during the current government administration.
“Let’s see how far we can get. To date we have only covered 8 miles and 354 ft by the direction of the Transit and Road Police. Let’s remember that we are the second city hall on the state that use bike the most and develops its use”, added.
What do cyclists say about the bike lane on Insurgentes Street?
The demands of the cycling population made possible this new track. And, even though they say to be happy with the implementation of the bike path, emphasizes that is important to provide maintenance to the existing ones.
“I’m so happy about the city hall to start to open more spaces for us. But I hope they don’t forget to provide maintenance, not only to this new bike lane, but also all the already installed”, mentioned cyclist Armando López, to portal AM.
Likewise, another user indicated that is the opportunity for authorities and cyclists to strengthen road culture.
“Sometimes, we complain about city hall, but if they are opening a new space for us, then, the next is to be responsible, both citizens by having a greater road culture, as city hall by providing maintenance to these tracks”, expressed the user.
