Attention, please… Cyclists, very soon you will have a new cycle path that will take you from center to south of the city and back.

It is the Gran Tenochtitlan bikeway, one of the most ambitious projects of the latest years in matters of cycling infrastructure.

According to the head of government of CDMX, Clara Brugada, it will be a bikeway of 21.1 miles of length that will cover on extreme right lanes of the Tlalpan roadway.

However, the head of government emphasized that will be a different infrastructure to the future floating roadway, this last will be a pedestrian corridor.

From where to where will be?

The new Gran Tenochtitlan bikeway aims to benefit citizens that live to south of capital, for that will cover from Tlalpan to main square of Mexico City. The cycling infrastructure plans to have 21.1 linear miles and be at road level.

“We are going to build a 21.1-mile bikeway, from the main square to periferico and that we will call Ciclovía Gran Tenochtitlan going from Tlalpan to main square, as I mention you, and it will help a lot”, said the head of government.

About this last point, Brugada confirmed that this project will benefit thousands of cyclists in Tlalpan, that, if occupy the traffic arteries of the zone, for now, don’t have an infrastructure focused on bikes that provide a safer path in this track.

The best bikeway of the city

Due location and length, the ciclovía Gran Tenochtitlán will be by nature one of the most important in the capital.

There really are many cyclists on Tlalpan and we need to support to transform into a great bikeway. One of the best bikeways that we are going to have in city is this”, mentioned.

For that, is expected that this cycle path has the necessary tools to provide a greater cycling protection, such as installation of confibicis, horizontal and vertical signage, lighting, etc.

When the bikeway will be ready?

Even though Brugada did not stipulate about the exact date of inauguration for the ciclovía gran Tenochtitlan, it is known that this project is part of improving mobility in city during the next 2026 football world cup. For that, we can believe that this infrastructure should be ready on the eve of soccer seasons.

In reference to the floating road, Brugada mentioned that the renovation of this track is one of the most important projects of their administration; for that, assured that works will start soon.

The floating road will be a pedestrian crossing with a construction on infrastructure of metro line 2. At the same time, includes the restoration of the 34 subterranean pedestrian crossings in the same track.
