Bike is taking more importance in all the world, and bikeways in Chile demonstrate it… These could expand in a very important way in Paine City.

Well, even though Chile has certain cycling infrastructure, this is far from being the best. On the other hand, the bike use grows to an accelerated rhythm in this region, for that, a group of students of Chile University already works on the project “Connecting Paine: Master Plan for Safe and Efficient Bikeways” (in Spanish, “Conectando Paine: Plan Maestro para Ciclovías Seguras y Eficientes”).

Stay with us and learn more about the ambitious proposal, the one that works as a clear example of need and benefits to have a sustainable mobility.

Master Plan in Paine, the key to expand bikeways in Chile

In order to build more bikeways in Chile and develop the sustainable mobility, many college students try to initiate the Master Plan of Bikeways in Paine. The aim is increase safety and improve state of cycling lanes of each commune, as create other totally new projects.

In this way, arise the project “Connecting Paine: Master plan for Safe and Efficient Bikeways”.

It is proposed by Benjamín Sabag (Transport Civil Engineering), Benjamín Alvial (Department of Computer Science) and Valentina Sánchez (Department of Industrial Engineering). They, in direct collaboration with local community, represented by Patricia Soto, community leader, and Jonathan Campos, creator of the initiative “Te quiero Cleta”.

What are the aims of the project?

Improve existing bikeways, as create others, creating a connection among them, such as main routes for population or parking lots for bikes.

All the previous information is part of sustainable mobility as the essence of a bikeway.

In one hand, having more cycling infrastructure cheers people to use bike to move. By circulating in separated lanes of vehicle transit provides greater safety to users.

On the other hand, the interconnection among the different cycle paths and other key aspects such as bike parking, allow bike and cycling lanes to connect with other means of public transport. In this way, is easier to weave one into other in a safer way.

Thus, Paine inhabitants and users of Chile bikeways would have the possibility of move in two wheels in a more effective, efficient and comfortable way.

How to achieve it?

In order to achieve this aim, is necessary to follow a scheme which goes from proposal and planning to implementation and construction of bikeways.

The Master Plan in Paine follows the next scheme:

The approval of all the steps of the scheme, can lead to built and improve Paine bikeways. If performed, will work as an example of need to create more bike lanes in Chile and develop sustainable mobility.
