Here it is the most terrifying month of the year, cyclists!

Halloween is close and nothing excites me the most than visit the bewitched places of CDMX while we pedal.

October is a magic month, for horror lovers, the legends of disappeared people, the creepy and everything that is mystical. This date is characterized by cold and nostalgic atmosphere. In many places, people believes is the time where the veil that separates natural world from supernatural one is thinner than ever.  

So, everything that is related with ghosts, haunted houses and scary movies, is more electrifying and conspicuous as Halloween gets closer.

Of course, cycling is an activity that can have a perfect combination with this theme.How? Well, Mexico City has many spectral sites which history contains pretty scary stories, places to go cycling and feel in your flesh the scare these transmit.

Now, we will present you a list of haunted places of CDMX. So, take your bike and don’t forget your lights, because who knows what kind of spectrums we can find.

Haunted places in CDMX, would you dare to cycling to these?

All the cities have their own legends and ghosts, some more terrifying than others, but finally, they got these.

The Mexican metropolis, one of the greatest capitals of the world, has an infinite number of sites marked by the aura of supernatural. From hospitals with ghost nurses to houses of witches, we will present you some of these places.

La casa de la tía Toña (or Aunt Toña’s house)

If exists a perfect environment to experience fear, that is the enchanted woods. One of the main lungs of city is Chapultepec Park, where some trees hide the famous house.

Story begins in these walls, where a kind and millionairess women liked to caring of homelessness children. However, these last played pretty rude jokes to the point of driving her crazy. One day, she wouldn’t resist anymore and kill them, hiding the remains in the house. It is said that, the spectrum of aunt toña as she was known, still wanders in that house.
Do you want to go? It’s very close to Panteon Dolores and Constituyentes avenue, if you go cycling, you can get there while covering the park by bike.

La Planchada from Juarez hospital

In hospital juarez, in the capital center, for many years has been told the legend of the famous planchada. The spectrum of a woman that during her life, was a nurse that liked to have a clean and starched uniform, from there her nickname.

As it is mention, it’s a kind appearance that help to sick people, specially, the ones with a terminal illness.

Testimonia of some people, said to be cared by a beautiful nurse, but when asking for her and describing her features, they informed that doesn’t exist someone like her in their staff.

You can get to this place by using the shared bus-bike lane of Eje 1 Sur.

La casa de Cañitas (Cañitas House)

Even though is a controversial place with a polemic owner, this still being a destiny of haunted places on CDMX. The casa de cañitas was very famous to the end of 90s and early 2000.

As it is told, on their interior appeared the spectrum of a monk that tormented to owner and friends when they were young, and other supernatural events. Nowadays, you can easily find it in cañitas street, in addition, has a plate out of this illustration of that monk.

If you want to visit it, the closest bike way is the one in Mexico-Tacuba. 

La calle de la quemada (street of burned girl)

Even though isn’t a concrete place, it is said that one of the houses located on Jesus Maria avenue in historical center, in 16th century lived a woman with extraordinary beauty. Her beauty was so big that an Italian marquis that used to pretend her, one day started to killed to everyone that looked at her.

In order to stop murders, the woman decided to burn her face to disfigure it and erase her beauty. Even though she lived for a long time, she started to a use a black veil to cover her face, that’s why people started to call her la quemada (burned girl).

The previous bike route will connect you with shared bus-bike lane of eje 1, so you can cover street, and with some luck or not, you may find to someone there, like a spectrum covered with a black veil.

La casa de Don Juan Manuel (The house of Don Juan Manuel)

If you could know the exact hour you’re going to die, would you ask it? If your answer is yes, maybe you would like to meet to Don Juan Manuel, a man that sold his soul to devil in the viceroyalty epoque to know if her wife was cheating on him.

The condition than Satan gave him was through a wizard, that during that night would kill to the first man that cross in front of his door at 11 pm. Don Juan Manuel did it like that, but drunk with jealousy repeated the same action every night. He would ask to strangers “excuse me, what time is it?” and when they answered 11 pm, he would say, “What a bliss to know your death hour”, to then, kill them by stabbing them with a knife.

Repentant, a priest ordered him to comply with a penitence under the fork in Plaza Mayor to forgive him. Then, mysteriously, it was the same Juan Manuel who on the third day of punishment woke up hanging. From then, people mentions that if you pass by republica de Uruguay street near of 11 pm, and you find a man that asks you the hour, you should never tell it, it could be Don Juan Manuel.

The witches’ house

Located in Roma neighborhood, this house has its name due the beautiful but enigmatic architecture. If you see it from the front, its façade presents a tower that ends with a spike that looks like a witch hat; besides two fake hollows that seem like their eyes.

This building constructed in 1908 during 20th century, it was home of the famous shaman Pachita, distinguished for her esoteric rituals. Known for the many types of personalities that used to go with her, from people of show business to politics.

Some might say these rituals impregnate the supernatural elements, for that, is common to witnessing or hearing strange things or noises.

If you want to visit it, take the insurgentes bike way and the shared bus bike lane to get closer.
