All indicate that tough measures are a need to respect spaces for cyclists, such as… the vehicles parked on bike path will be taken to impound lot.
That said mayor of Monterrey, Luis Donaldo Colosio who mentions if motorists continue parking on bike lane, more drastic measures will be taken against them.
It refers to the bike path placed on Washington street, in the city hall of Monterrey.
According to complaints of cyclists, and how many local media have exposed, many motorists use bike path as a parking lot.
For this reason, Monterrey City Hall confirmed that motorists parked on bikeways, will have to bear the consequences. And transit and road authority will use tow trucks to move the cars, and then, take them to impound lot.
People just understand with severe consequences
On the other hand, Colosio mentioned if the permanent operations and fines of 2,080 MXN aren’t enough to respect bikeway, will have to take more drastic measures.
“At this moment we are applying fines and warnings. However, according to the regulations, we are going to move vehicles and apply more severe fines. I hope we don’t get to that, because that would mean that people just understand with drastic measures and we want to presume a city where people respect”, affirmed.
The mayor highlighted that the purpose isn’t to punish people, but, have a better co-existence among everyone. For that, emphasized that this shouldn’t be about penalties, but culture and respect.
In this aspect, mentioned that citizens must understand that everyone have the right to transport safely. Thus, without violate the mobility of other people, this considers from pedestrians to motorized and non-motorized vehicles.
“It’s also a topic of culture and respect, we have to understand that public space, above all public roads, are for all the people and that’s why we have exclusive lanes for every transport and pedestrian”, mentioned.

Even though the exclusive lane of Washington street isn’t inaugurated, is worrying that vehicles park on bike route. Specially, because of the damages that present.
This work integrates the project of Corredores Verdes of City Hall of Monterrey. The barriers that will delimit the route were place on the past may. But these already present some bumps and cracks caused by parked vehicles.
In order to avoid situations like this, is important to channelize bike paths from vehicles. For that, exist tools and devices as confibicis, channelizers, delineator posts to mark begin or end of a bike path.
If a vehicle invades that track, can get a ticket or lodge a complaint to be taken to impound lot.
