The aim of providing greater safety in bikeway of Magdalena Contreras that covers from El Gavillero until Unidad Habitacional Independencia (U.H.I.), the mayor, Fernando Mercado Guaida, announced the implementation of a security operation with the permanent presence of bicycle officers.
The officer emphasized the importance of having safe cycling spaces, due are key spaces for sustainable mobility and the transportation of city hall’ inhabitants.
The bikeway is the only linear park of Magdalena Contreras and represents a space to transit, whether is by bike or walking, and, is also a place of entertainment for neighbors. For that, we will bring to life with safety and better urban services,” Mercado mentioned.
The program started with a safety tour by bike, where mayor and team covered the bikeway from El Gavillero, the highest zone of city hall, until the U.H.I., on the lower part of demarcation.
Bicycle officers will patrol permanently
According to Mercado, the safety program will be permanent, with patrols of surveillance in charge of bicycle officers, which will have a presence along the 4.3 miles of the bikeway and the U.H.I.
The purpose of the initiative is to prevent crimes and reinforce the police presence in the zone.
In total, are considered 12 cells of vigilance equipped with electric bikes to move 20 police elements. In addition, bicycle officers will patrol different neighborhoods of city hall’ high zone, among them:
- Ixtlahualtongo
- El Gavillero
- San Nicolas
- Subestacion
Now, for the lower part of demarcation, the operation will include motorcycle patrolling in the city halls of :
- Barranca Seca
- Barrio Las Calles
- La Concepción
- Santa Teresa
- La Guadalupe
- San Francisco
- Héroes de Padierna
Renovation of spaces and greater contact with community
The implementation with bicycle officers won’t be the only measure to take to create safer spaces. Other stages of this plan include renovation of spaces and listen to the demands of neighbors.
For that, will be renovated the vigilance modules, will be retired abandoned cars, the rehabilitation of safe path and will be performed with neighbors to listen and address their complaints.
Mercado mentioned that all these actions will have as aim to gain the trust of people in authorities, as develop the complaint of criminal acts.
Finally, announced the implementation of patching works, luminaire implementation, tree trimming, curbs and habilitation of children’s games.
