
Javier Lamarque, municipal president of Cajeme, Sonora, said to be aware of the need to increase options of safe mobility in the city hall. For that, he also anticipated and ensured the construction of new bikeways in Cajeme at the beginning of 2025.
In addition, indicated the performance of different actions to ease vehicle flow, such as rehabilitation and repaving of main roads, paint to delineate lanes, as horizontal roads and improvement of traffic signals, and others.

Where the new bikeways in Cajeme will be?
With respect to the next bikeways in Cajeme, these will be on Avenida Norman Borlaug, between Calle 300 & Valle del Pascola.
It’s about a bikeway of 1.8 miles in each end of the road, for that, cyclists won’t have a problem by circulating in one way or another of the transit.
In addition, to achieve a good co-existence with pedestrian, it would have spaces for stops of public transport.
“The design is for safety of all users, including pedestrians, cyclists and motorists (…) With these actions, we are giving a firm step to a more sustainable, modern and safe city”, Lamarque said.
In the same way, the governor indicated that motorists that park on the cycling exclusive spaces or block them in some way, will receive a sanction by personnel of Municipal Transit.
These won’t be the only bikeways
These bike lanes won’t be the only ones in Cajeme, but, as the municipal president mentions, are part of the integral program of bikeways and improvement of bearing surfaces.
For that, will perform the same actions in other streets of the city, as in la Kino and avenida 200.
In the meanwhile, the changes in avenida Borlaug, will reduced to two lanes per direction, improvement with hot binder of bearing surface, the incorporation of central strip and signage intended to turns and maneuvering lanes; exclusive lanes to turn to left in intersections with traffic lights and pedestrian crossings with clear signage.

What do cyclists say?
The cycling organization OBR en Bici said to look positively these news, due, after more than a decade fostering the use of bike as an alternative to transport, is good to have more bikeways in Cajeme.
In accordance with Jesus Adolfo Aguilar, president of OBR en Bici, these projects boost the importance to start through an important part such as Norman E. Borlaoug.
“This is the first bikeway in the municipality that accomplish with one purpose. They previously tried to create spaces in some streets, but they didn’t continue. In addition, there are some places where exist routes for cyclists, but these are pretty narrow spaces, as what occurs in Las Misiones residential development”, the cyclist mentioned.
Aguilar emphasized that a bikeway is more important than it seems: in one hand, is an exclusive lane to safeguard the integrity of the cyclist, on the other hand, is a road space which use and implementation goes further than recreation, is a road for real journeys, whether is to go to work, school or just to go shopping, as the motorists do in their cars.
When the bike paths will be finished?
In referring to bikeways of Avenida Borlaug, secretary of urban development, Mario Alfaro Vazquez, previewed that will be ready in a month, meaning, at the beginning of 2025. He also informed that will have an investment of 25 million of pesos.
Finally, Alfaro detailed that even though the approximate measures of these are 1.8 miles, it isn’t excluded the possibility that in the future, the cycling infrastructure extends more in this municipality, all with the aim of benefit to cyclists and pedestrians of the zone.
