After several months of constant meetings, protests and different disagreements among authorities, cyclists and traders, is finally a fact, the bike way in Isidro Fabela finally started its construction.

It was this October 4th when workers of Direccion General de Vialidad de la Secretaria de Movilidad (General Direction of Road of Ministry of Mobility) started to mark white lines to delineate lanes that will be part of this new cycle path in Toluca.

The construction of the first stage started nearby bus terminal of Toluca, from north to south.

The fight in favor and against the bike way in Isidro Fabela date from 2021. From then, different cycling groups have demanded their construction, due ensure this lane is part of their right to mobility. On the other hand, traders in the section of cycle path tried to stop the project, due ensure the pass of cyclists would affect their sales.

The main discontent and argument of traders to oppose to this work, was that the construction of a cycling lane won’t let space for customers to park their vehicles, diminishing the sales to 800 businesses. This, even though, the studies demonstrated the opposite and reaffirmed that a bike way is necessary to guarantee greater safety to cyclists before the constant run overs.

Between 2016 and 2019, Toluca registered 55 run overs of cyclists, 6 of them in the mentioned avenue.

Now, after almost 4 years of fight, the bike way in isidro fabela is finally a reality.
